Asset Tracking

Asset tracking refers to the technology used for the positioning and monitoring of objects within buildings or defined environments. Leveraging interconnected IoT systems, the movements and locations of assets, such as IT equipment or furniture, are tracked and analyzed in real-time. The primary goal is to utilize resources efficiently, prevent losses, and optimize spatial planning.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) serves as the core technology, minimizing energy consumption while delivering accurate data. Within a mesh network, fixed mesh nodes measure the signal strength (RSSI) of wireless asset tags. This data is transmitted to a gateway, which calculates and centrally stores the tag positions. Depending on the network configuration, accuracy ranges from 0 to 8 meters, making it particularly relevant for managing small-scale assets. Some tags are additionally equipped with sensors to capture environmental parameters, such as temperature or humidity, ideal for applications like monitoring storage or technical rooms.

The technology is widely applied, for example, in office environments to manage resources like IT equipment or furniture. Beyond this, asset tracking is also utilized in other areas, such as optimizing logistics processes in warehouses or managing equipment and vehicles on large campuses. In addition to location tracking, the technology enables the generation of geofence notifications, enhancing security-relevant and operational processes.

Through open interfaces like APIs, asset tracking can be seamlessly integrated into existing building management systems. Many systems are designed to be low-maintenance and cost-efficient, supported by automated configuration and long-lasting tag battery life.
